Buddista (Theravada) : The celebrations consist of two events, Indra Jatra and Kumari Jatra. Indra Jatra is marked by masked dances of deities and demons, displays of sacred images and tableaus in honor of the deity Indra, the king of heaven. Kumari Jatra is the chariot procession of the living goddess Kumari.

Cultura : In this festival dedicated to Mt. Khangchendzonga, the guardian deity of Sikkim and to Yabdu, the supreme commander of Mount Khangchendzonga. It is staged in front of the Tsuklakhang monastery in the former palace compound in Gangtok

Buddista (Theravada) : Celebration of his return to earth from heaven. Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal, and his mother expired after seven days. At the age of 41, he ascended to heaven to preach to his mother. Nuns and monks and king Zug Chen Nyingpo were worried because they did not know where hewas. His disciple, the clairvoyant Sharibu, had a vision of the lord to be in heaven. Another disciple of Lord Buddha, Mao gyel ge bu, who was known to possess miraculous powers, ascended to heaven and requested Buddha to return to earth. He agreed to descend.

Cultura : Observed by the Limboo Community in Sikkim, Teyongsi Sirijunga Sawan Tongnam, marks the birth anniversary of the famous 18th century scholar Teyongsi Sirijunga, who is greatly remembered for his legendary role as a revivalist of the Limboo’s age old traditional legacy in the state. The festival is one of the most significant for these native tribes, who celebrate it every year with great zeal and passion.

Fin dai tempi preistorici in Europa, le feste (con falò, rituali e regali) segnavano l'inizio delle giornate più lunghe. La festa romana di Saturnalia durava molti giorni nel mese di dicembre. Le tribù tedesche celebravano anche il pieno inverno con bevande e rituali. I Bulgari ( con Koleduvane) e i Polacchi (con Gwiazdka) continuano questa tradizione. Gesù nacque probabilmente in primavera( secondo i riformisti in Autunno). Nel IV secolo fu scelto il 25 Dicembre per festeggiare la nascita del Papa Giulio I (Si parla anche del vascovo Liberus nel 354 A.C.). Così, fu introdotto un elemento cristiano durante le antichissime feste d'inverno. Prima del 1852, gli Stati Papali e altre città italiane celebravano il Capodanno il giorno di Natale.

Ferie secolare : It was the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress at midnight of December 31, 1929 - January 1, 1930, that the Tri-Colour Flag was unfurled by the nationalists and a pledge taken that every year on January 26, the Independence Day would be celebrated and that the people would unceasingly strive for the establishment of a Sovereign Democratic Republic of India. The professed pledge was successfully redeemed on January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India framed by the Constituent Assembly of India came into force, although the Independence from the British rule was achieved on August 15, 1947. It is because of this that August 15 is celebrated as Independence Day, while January 26 as Republic Day.
